Enrolment process
Step 1: Residing in our catchment area
Education Queensland's online tool will assist you to determine your catchment school.
Once you have determined that you reside in the Buranda State School catchment area, please ensure you have current proof of residency documents at the address indicated available as follows:
- One primary source – a current lease agreement, rates notice, or unconditional contract of sale and
- One secondary source – a utility bill (e.g., electricity, gas) showing this same address and parent's/legal guardian' name
We need to sight the original birth certificate for each child, or your child's current passport and visa documents if they were born overseas.
You will need to provide all the documents listed above before an interview time can be made.
Out-of-catchment application
Applications from any other person, not meeting the criteria outlined above, is an out-of-catchment application. Enrolment of students from outside the local catchment area is restricted to ensure that the total current and forecast enrolments do not exceed the Student Enrolment Capacity. This school can only enrol out-of-catchment students:
- if there is sufficient spare capacity after reserving places for students who move into the catchment during the year; and after taking into account the school's projected future enrolment growth.
Step 2: Application
Expressions of interest for enrolments are accepted one year prior to the requested date of enrolment and remain active for 12 months only. Your responses will be added to the waiting list and ordered based on the date and time stamp of when the form was completed.
Prep - 6 The link to our wait lists to register your interest in enrolling your child will be available from 8.30am on the first Tuesday of February each year.
If you reside within our catchment area you will be contacted during Term 3 to provide the above forms and will be provided with an enrolment pack.
If you do not reside within our catchment area your response will be added to our waiting list and will be ordered based on the date and time stamp of when the form was completed. After advice from the school that there is a place for your child, you will need to bring in the required documents and an enrolment pack will be given to you for completion.
You will be advised via email if you are unsuccessful with your application. A new application will need to be submitted each year
Step 3: Enrolment interviewYou will be required to attend an enrolment interview with the principal. Our enrolment officer will assist you to make an appointment at a convenient time. Prior to the interview we will need to see the following documents:
- The child’s original birth
certificate.
- The child's report card if they
have attended another school.
- Australian
citizenship (if applicable).
- If
the child is born overseas, we will also need to see the child’s current
passport, visa documents and, if applicable, confirmation of enrolment from
Education Queensland International (see information below for international).
